meanwhile fel is already dutifully putting things from the bakery bag into the fridge- cakes and sweet breads and creampuffs all get delicately loaded into the bottom shelf as if they were holy treasures. which, they are, clearly. )
[ He hasn't handed over the heaviest ones but he has, in fact, handed some of the bags over – picking your battles does wonders, doesn't it? She favors him with a cheeky smile in return before following him inside, Aqua and Ruby dogging her footsteps the whole way. They've got their heads tipped together and she can hear them muttering heatedly about whether or not it's really okay to let Ai go into Some Guy's apartment, but she keeps her chin up and wears that cheerily clueless smile as if she can reassure them that way. They might be smart kids, but sometimes they're a little over anxious, huh? ]
I'll be fine – ah, but if there's anything Ruby and Aqua could drink, I'd appreciate it! We were just out in the sun and they were doing a lot of playing up on the roof. [ She plops the bags down on the counter and shoots another smile over her shoulder at the twins, both still hovering awkwardly in the doorway. ] It'll be nice to have someone new to play with, huh?
[ You guys are going to make friends or god help her. Unsurprisingly, Aqua glowers a little – Ruby, surprisingly, perks up just a bit at the prospect. ]
( felicity pauses, and then nods. while vic gets some cute sanrio cups from the cupboard, she's already climbing the little ladder in the kitchen to get said juice out from one of the bags.
Which one? she asks, holding up two options for the twins to see- an apple-peach juice and a cherry-melon juice. both are decorated with... more sanrio. someone has a type. she speaks softly, almost unsurely- like she isn't sure she has the right. )
... It will be, I hope. I'm not going to force anything though. ( for all three of them. while felicity practices her... everything skills, he speaks softly. ) It would be nice, though. Before I got custody, she didn't have any friends. I'm new at this, but- I really just want to make her happy, y'know?

[ It's Ruby who perks up first – the solidarity of little girls who love a mascot character – and while she still looks a little uncertain about this whole arrangement, she's much less grumpy than before. Apple's good! she chirps... and then gives Aqua a sharp elbow to the side to get him to stop looking quite as mutinous (siblings, man). He grumbles something disagreeable but lifts his head as well. ... Cherry's fine.
That's good enough for Ai. Neither of them are necessarily shy, but they're both reticent in their own way – but with Ruby prodding them both along, she thinks they'll just about manage to make friends.
Turning hr attention away from the kids, she puts on a smile for Victor of the butter-wouldn't-melt variety and decides she'll do her best not to outright lie just yet. ]
I get what you're saying. The way I see it... as the adults, we're the ones responsible for giving them the things they need to be happy. Right? I don't know if I'm getting it right a hundred percent of the time but I think if I do my best and I want the best for them... things should just about work themselves out.
That's exactly it. That sort of drive is everything. Just be sure to listen to them.

She's got the biggest sweet tooth. She'd eat from a bakery nine times out of ten if she had her way...
[ Ai giggles politely. She's surprised to see just how warm their rapport is. She doesn't really know how siblings are supposed to be – she's an only child, after all – and the closest she'd ever gotten had been the other kids in the orphanage. There hadn't been a lot of warmth there, but wasn't that to be expected from kids who were never given any themselves?

Ruby's like that, too. Then again, Ruby likes eating pretty much anything. They say kids are supposed to be picky at that age, but I've never had any trouble getting them to try new food or eat their veggies.

Ruby's leading the conversation like she usually does with only the occasional interjection from Aqua – she's never gotten the chance to see them chattering with a friend their age, come to think of it. All that happens at daycare and Ai can't risk being spotted there. It's nice. ]
Then again, maybe they're just glad they're not getting my cooking. [ said with a self-deprecating little grin. ] I guess anything's an upgrade after that!
